Battery China Dig. Trans.

Digital Collaboration, Battery Passport and Lifecycle Twins – Tech Talk with CATL Team at IAA in Munich

In addition to the software-defined vehicle, Electrification or eDrive is the second strategic field of action in the Automotive Industry.
At the heart of this is the Battery and the entire Battery Ecosystem.

On the one hand, battery manufacturers are continuously developing
  • the technology,
  • materials,
  • energy density and
  • thus range,
  • charging speed and
  • safety.
The market leader is CATL, which, in addition to its Chinese factories, already produces cells and modules for OEMs in Eastern Europe and Germany (Erfurt).

On the other hand, the new EU Battery Regulation to ensure sustainability along the entire battery value chain from the mine to preliminary products to the cell, module and pack to vehicle integration and even further to the second life and recycling sets binding requirements for the players with regard to cooperation, data exchange and their artifacts.
Compliance with these is a prerequisite for market entry in the EU from around the middle of the decade.
The Battery Passport plays a central role in this.

It contains static and dynamic data about the battery, which is maintained by the economic actors.
It is unique, linked to the battery’s identifier and interoperable with other digital product passports, and is expected to be required from the end of 2026.
An implementation platform for this is Catena-X, and the first applications are already available.

For automation along the data-driven product creation process, it must be connected to the digital twins or Lifecycle Twins of the companies involved.

Thanks to the entire CATL Team.
